Job Description

Join a dynamic and specialized team as a Sales & Use Tax Consultant, where you'll have the opportunity to utilize your extensive experience and expertise in California's sales and use tax regulations. This role is designed for those who have previously served as a Sales & Use Tax Auditor with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) or the California State Board of Equalization (BOE).

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and prepare audit workpapers for clients undergoing examination.
  • Utilize your in-depth understanding of California tax regulations to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Offer strategic guidance based on your state agency experience to enhance audit preparation.
  • Collaborate with leadership on specialized audit cases, providing high-level advisory support.
  • Deliver independent advisory services to clients navigating complex tax challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Former Sales & Use Tax Auditor with CDTFA or BOE.
  • Current independent consultant, sole proprietor, or small firm owner.
  • Extensive knowledge of California sales and use tax laws, regulations, and audit procedures.
  • Proven ability to identify potential risk areas and ensure clients are audit-ready.
  • Self-motivated professional with strong attention to detail and exceptional advisory skills.

Compensation:

Earn a competitive rate of $200–$300 per hour, translating to approximately $416,000 – $624,000 annually, depending on your expertise and level of engagement.
